Amidst the height of the pandemic in 2020, one of the wildest rides most of us have taken in our lives, Umaverse was created. Evan Smith brought his spontaneous, creative energy to Mesa Distribution where the brand was born and nurtured. Exuding this same feral energy are pro’s Maité, Cody Chapman & Roman Pabich. Thomas Campbell took reigns on art direction and curated the initial offering, enlisting the art of Nathaniel Russell whom has become the epicentre of the Uma artist universe. The beloved and talented Andy Jenkins now guides the creative efforts while Evan continues to lead the expanding team on a global jaunt, spreading the Uma vibes of inclusivity and positivity, welcoming all to join in along the way.

“I was super stoked on the idea of doing a shape based on my figures. I had seen some of the shapes Thomas Campbell had done and thought they were super cool and was really excited to collaborate with him on mine. I had never done anything like that before and thought it would be really interesting to see what we could come up with. I really enjoyed the challenge of figuring out how to take one of my paintings and turn it into a sculptural object while still making it skateable if someone wanted to. After working out a few different versions over a few weeks, this was the one that really stood out. I’m really happy with it and can’t wait to see it on people’s walls, and hopefully see some people skate it.” – Richard Colman
Uma Skateboards, the brand recently co-founded by Evan Smith has created a super original board shape with contemporary artist Richard Colman called “Crazy Special Edition”. Known for his mix of figurative imagery and bold geometry, he chose to represent here a character entangled in a set of rounded shapes.
To purchase the boards, check out the Uma Landsleds website. The packshot photos on white background were made by Atlas Skateboards, the others are the property of Uma Skateboards.
